Celeste C. Houdershelt
Celeste Carr Houdershelt, 94, of Spotsylvania County died Thursday, April 21, 2011, surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Houdershelt was a native of Spotsylvania County and the daughter of the late B.O. and Irma Carr. She was a clerk for the FMC Plant for more than 30 years and then worked part time at the Fredericksburg Auto Auction.
Mrs. Houdershelt was a member of Zoan Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Houdershelt enjoyed gardening and yard sales.
Survivors include her daughter, Marjorie Layton; daughters-in-law, Helen Davenport and Mary Ellen Steele; six grandchildren, Lloyd Layton and his wife, Liliana, Dee Mundy and her husband, Wiley, Steve Davenport and his wife, Alesia, Cheryl McCullough, Deanne Davenport and her husband, Tom, and Lexi Davenport; eight great-grandchildren, Ashley Mundy, Lauren Mundy, Courtney Mundy, Brett Brooks, Joshua McCullough, Lucita Layton, Sophia Layton and Lloyd Layton Jr.; a sister, Grace Reynolds; and a halfsister, Janet Hwilka. In addition to her parents Mrs. Houdershelt was preceded in death by four sons, Robert Davenport, Buddy Davenport, Larry Davenport and Warren Houdershelt.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 25, at Zoan Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jason Booth and the Rev. Jesse Booth officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
