Ms Braxton was the principla at Spotswood School when I was assigned as a transliterstor for deaf children being educated there. It was the only class in the 5 counties. When I joined the team, the children were in kindergaten and first grade. She was always kind and welcoming...but no funny business on her watch! I admired her style and appreciated her strength and support for this pilot project to educate children in their home school. I'm sure the angels greeted her when she went home to celebrate Christmas in Heaven.

Ms. Braxton paved the way for many educators in the Spotsylvania community. She served the students, teachers/staff, and community with dignity and grace. Oftentimes, she shared her wisdom and words of encouragement. Many stand on her shoulders, and I am eternally grateful for her dedication and commitment to education and her community. Our prayers are with you Mr. Braxton and to the family during this difficult time. Be comforted in knowing Ms. Braxton has peacefully transitioned from labor to her heavenly reward.

Ms. Braxton was principal at Spotswood Elementary when I was on faculty there as a school speech pathologist. She was a 'barrier breaker', the first African American women to serve as a Spotsylvania County Public Schools principal to support ALL children, their families and staff, especially the inclusion of students with disabilities with typical peers. Some of us remember the day when SCPS announced that she was opening Courthouse Road ES. This was during the heyday of new schools being built in Spotsy due to the beginning influx of new residents. The talk in the hallways and teacher workroom was who was going to remain at Spotswood because staff were making plans to transfer, right quick, to follow Ms. Braxton to CHRES. In Gratitude for Ms. Braxton's witness.

Ms. Braxton was an outstanding principal & administrator. She was my 1st supervisor on my 1st job out of grad school. She led by example & provided guidance, space & support for me to stumble & grow. She was a quiet & mighty leader — knowledgeable, reflective & respectful.
