David F. Oehm
David F. "Dave" Oehm, 70, of Spotsylvania County died Saturday, April 9, 2011, at Mary Washington Hospital.
Mr. Oehm was born on Dec. 2, 1940, in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Garland E. "Genie" Oehm.
Dave wore many hats throughout his life. He was a proud employee of the Central Intelligence Agency for 30 years. After retirement, he and his wife ran a horse business on their farm in Spotsylvania. Dave excelled in athletics; he still holds the record for the longest touchdown at his former high school in Alexandria. He was an accomplished golfer; the golf game motivated him to persevere when physical ailments prevented him from playing.
To his family and friends, he was a gentleman. Holding the door open or pulling out a lady's chair was as automatic as breathing. Dave was fair, always kind, compassionate, humble and above all, honest.
We will miss him every day and we take comfort that he has been reunited with his loving wife, Genie.
Dave is survived by his sons, William E. "Billy" Oehm and his wife, Paula, of Spotsylvania; Wilson "Scott" Hall and his wife, Shannon, of Tacoma, Wash.; and his daughter, Ashley L. Oehm and her fiance, Michael A. Rakes, of Spotsylvania.
Dave is also survived by his grandchildren, Ashley M. Butler and husband Christopher; Taylor M. Oehm, Jessica J. McDonald, Summer A. Rakes and Chancellor D. Rakes; as well as a great-grandchild, Christian M. Butler.
A funeral for Mr. Oehm will be held on Friday, April 15, at 11 a.m., at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel, Locust Grove. The Rev. Jim Reid will officiate. Burial will follow in Eleys Ford Baptist Church Cemetery in Spotsylvania. Pallbearers will be William E. "Billy" Oehm, Wilson "Scott" Hall, Michael A. Rakes, Mike Chilton, Scott Bushman and Bill Rakes.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 14, from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at johnson cares.com.
