Deborah "Debbie" Ann Sheets, (maiden name: Jones), age 61, of Mechanicsville, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 17, 2016, after more than three-year battle with cancer. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Jean Jones (maiden name: Ekdahl); and her father, Willard Thomas Jones. She is survived by her loving family that includes: her husband, Dave Sheets; her daughter, Lesley Newton; her son, Joshua Newton; her sister, Valerie Jones Setzer, and her husband Bill Setzer; her niece, Emily Setzer; her nephew, Evan Setzer and his wife Nicole, and their children, Emma and Coleman Setzer. Debbie was well known for her caring and generous nature, love of gardening, and masterful culinary skills (especially her baked goods). As a young person and adult, she was blessed with natural musical talents that she nurtured with studies at James Madison College. Her guitar skills were a natural accompaniment to her lovely voice, and she enjoyed singing with various choral groups as an adult. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. Both services will be held at Monaghan Funeral Home; 7300 Creighton Parkway; Mechanicsville, Virginia 23111. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Debbie, to the Virginia Commonwealth University's Massey Cancer Clinic (https://www.support.vcu.edu/give/Massey).
