Captain Douglas Lee Richardson passed away at the age of 34 on April 8, 2021. At the time of his death, he had served for 11 years as a Naval Flight Officer in the United States Marine Corps and was surrounded by his devoted family. He is survived by his loving wife of over ten years, Amanda, daughters Alexia (10) and Hailey (8), parents Sarah Scheffler and Michael Richardson, and brother Alex Richardson.
Doug was born in Rochelle, IL on March 2, 1987 but spent most of his childhood in King George, VA. He was an accomplished runner for the King George High School track and cross country teams and graduated with the class of 2005. He went on to graduate from Virginia Tech in 2010.
He began his career as an officer in the USMC in 2010 designated as a NFO and served as an EA-6B Electronic Countermeasures Officer. He deployed with VMAQ-2 to Iwakuni, Japan and to Incirlik, Turkey flying combat missions in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. He netted over 1000 flight hours and nearly 300 combat flight hours before he was selected to become a F/A-18 Weapon Systems Officer in 2018. His military decorations include the Strike-Flight Air Medal (4 awards), Inherent Resolve Campaign Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2 awards), and various unit awards.
Services will be held at 1100 EDT on April 24 with a Mass at the Quantico United States Marine Corps Chapel. The burial ceremony will be at 1300 EDT at the Quantico National Cemetery. The family will receive guests from 1500 to 1700 EDT on April 23 at Covenant Funeral Services in Stafford at 1310 Courthouse Rd. RSVPs are requested.
