Gary Campbell Obituary
Gary Clark Campbell, 52, of Spotsylvania County succumbed to his illness and went to be in the arms of the Lord on Thursday, January 20, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 18, 1969 and lived an exciting life enjoying family and friends.
Gary began his career with Spotsylvania County Fire, Rescue, and Emergency Management on October 5, 1992; he worked through the ranks and finished his career as a Battalion Chief. Gary led a life serving and protecting county residents in a paid and volunteer capacity as a lifetime member of the Spotsylvania Volunteer Fire Department. In his service to county residents, he saved many lives and was a dedicated leader. He was a loving and devoted family man, and dedicated friend; he was always willing to give more to others than he ever expected to receive. In his spare time Gary, known as Hound Dog, was an avid hunter and one of the original founding members of the Flat Top Hunt Club, he was a talented carpenter and he never passed up an opportunity to travel and see new places. In retirement, Gary was looking forward to his dove hunt in Argentina.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Clinton Byrd Campbell; his mother, Mary Louise Budd; and brother Ira Danny Wall. Gary is survived by his daughter, Victoria Moore (DeJon); sons Seth Campbell, Ryan Campbell and Dustin Davies (Laney); beloved grandson Wesley, who knew him as "PopPop"; true friend and supporter, Denise O. Campbell; sister Nancy Campbell; brothers Mark Campbell and Baron Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. Gary will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022 at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Spotswood Baptist Church, Fredericksburg. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Fredericksburg. The family invites all to join them for a celebration of life at Spotsylvania County Fire Company 4; 4804 Bancroft Rd. Fredericksburg Va. 22408.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Carter, Clayton Mullins, Tom McGinnis, Chris Graves, Abe Switala, Tracy Wheeler, Brian Beverly, Brian Alvis, Donald Epps, Jeff Fain, Ronnie McGhee, Vernon Crandall, and Chris Rollins. Honorary Pallbearers are Lindsay Carter, Kelly Carter, Gary Madison, Terry Snellings, Josh Mullins, William Maddox and retired Sheriff Howard Smith.

Gary will truly be missed. One of a kind and a heart of gold. We will be praying for the family. So sorry we weren't able to attend service. We have been sick with this Terrible plague covid.

We are so sorry for your loss. Gary was a very special friend with a big heart. He was one of the kindest and caring human beings we have ever met. Thank-you for allowing us to be part of his life, your personal and family sacrifices while Gary served the community and watched over his beloved firefighters have not gone unrecognized. The varying shifts, call outs all hours of the night, the empty spot at the dinner table and many late nights were not possible without your love and support for our friend. We will miss him dearly and I will miss my Guardian Angel that watched over me as I worked so many motor vehicle accidents on I95. May the warm memories, laughter and cherished love you hold close in your heart help you through this most difficult time. God bless you all and may our dear friend Gary rest in peace. Dawn & Mike
