Gerald T. Kowasic
Gerald Thomas Kowasic, 71, of Lake of the Woods passed away at Mary Washington Hospital on Saturday, June 25, 2011, after a long battle with mantle cell lymphoma.
Jerry was born in Fairhope, Pa., to George and Margaret Kowasic, and was employed as a PM planner and engineering foreman at PEPCO and for several years in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He also ran The Shoe Center in Warrenton until 2009 and had strong interests in Civil War artifacts and metallurgy.
Jerry is survived his wife of 52 years, Priscilla. Together they raised four sons and a granddaughter: Derek Kowasic and wife Melanie of Punta Gorda, Fla.; Donn Kowasic of Richmond; Dana Kowasic and wife Shari of Winchester; Davin Jay Kowasic and wife Kristina of Locust Grove; and Tara Kowasic of Richmond. He is also survived by two brothers, George Kowasic and wife Elsie of Fayette City, Pa., and William Kowasic of Fairhope.
Additional grandchildren are Natalie Kowasic, Ryan Kowasic and wife Michelle, Benjamin and Marquis Kowasic, Patsy and Christopher Kowasic, Dade, Aidan and Javin Kowasic, Griffin and Ana Kowasic, Christian Kowasic and Nicholas Kowasic, Sarah, Jacob and Steven Jenkins, Andrew and Brianna Phillips, Skylla and Dakota Rutherford and Stone Minatrea; and one great-grandson, Atticus Kowasic.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughters-in-law: Emily Loving Kowasic, Wendy Jenkins Kowasic and Tracy Crane Kowasic, all formerly of Culpeper, and Michelle Kowasic of Hagerstown, Md.
Memorial gatherings have been planned for Pennsylvania and Virginia. A gathering in Locust Grove will be held Wednesday, July 6, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Orange County Fire & Rescue, Locust Grove Station.
