Kenneth M. Howard
Kenneth Melvin Howard, 71, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 8, 2010, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on April 5, 1938, in Cunard, W.Va.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and LouRetha Howard, and his brother Donald.
Kenneth proudly served his country in the Army before retiring from Continental Telephone Co. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also an active member of the River of Life Church where he sang under the direction of close friend and pastor, Sarah E. Smith.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sylvia Howard of Stafford County; daughter Rebecca Compton and husband Gary of Fredericksburg; daughter Lisa Denault and husband Bruce of Stafford; daughter Jessica Kennedy and fiance Jobe Kemp of Stafford; sister Lula Hash of Charlotte, N.C.; and former son-in-law and fishing partner Robert Kennedy.
He was the proud grandfather of Gary Compton Jr., Stephanie Cox, Heather Ausbrooks, Keirsten and Nicholas Kennedy, Alexander, Matthew and Arianna Kemp, Tonya and Michael Denault, and Danielle Shartzer; and three great-grandchildren, Logan Denault, and Evelyn and Madeline Vioral. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and close friends.
Pallbearers will be Jobe Kemp, Robert Kennedy, Gary Compton Jr., Charlie Cox, Ronald Fox and Michelle White. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Compton, Gary Cox, Bruce Denault, Wayne Grimmet, Gary Johnson, Randy Fox and Michael Grimmett.
Friends and family may visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10, at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Home, Stafford. Friends and family may also visit from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Ronald Meadows Funeral Home in Hinton, W.Va.
The funeral service will be held at Ronald Meadows Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park at Palace Creek, Hinton.
