Lloyd Chewning Obituary

Lloyd W. Chewning

Lloyd W. Chewning, USAF Retired, born December 2, 1944, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Paramount Senior Living, Fredericksburg, VA.

Lloyd was a native of Falmouth, VA. He graduated from Stafford High School in 1963 and joined the U.S. Air Force soon after. He was a jet mechanic and traveled overseas and across the States. He was on duty in England, where he met and married his beloved wife, Valerie. He retired with the rank of Master Sargent from the USAF after 20 years of service and settled in Snow Hill, Alabama, where he resided for 50 years and was known as the neighborhood handyman. After his wife passed away in 2018, he moved back to Virginia to be near his family.

Lloyd enjoyed helping others. He and his wife spent several weeks with the Billy Graham organization, Samaritan's Purse, helping to rebuild communities in Mississippi after a disaster. He was an avid Bluegrass music fan. Upon Valerie's retirement, they purchased an RV and traveled all over the East Coast to Blue Grass Festivals with their dog, Cotton. He also loved the Atlanta Braves baseball team.

He is survived by his daughter, Lori Fluharty (Mark) of Seaford, DE; sisters, Margaret Perry of Stafford, and Elizabeth Eubank and Frances Thacker, both of Spotsylvania; brother, John Chewning (Becky) of Falmouth; cousins, Gloria Morris (Billy) of Appomattox County and Sandra Bullock (John) of Spotsylvania; four grandchildren, Virginia Barger and Chris McTigue of Verbena, AL, and Stacey Stump (Brandon) and Tiffany Lee (Walt) of Seaford, DE; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife, Valerie Jean; daughter, Rhiannon McTigue; parents, Robert and Nannie Chewning of Falmouth; sister, Bertha Weedon of King George; and brother, Robert Chewning of Falmouth.

The family would like to thank the staff at Paramount Senior Living and Legacy Hospice for their care during his final days. Special thanks to nurses Jewel, Aides, Virginia, Christi, and others for their loving care.

A private burial will take place at a later date in Quantico National Cemetery, where Lloyd will be interred with his late wife.

Donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Alzheimer's Association.

"I have fought the good fight, have finished the race. I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7

Dad was a wonderful person. He had a huge heart. He will be forever missed. I cherish the though he is with Valerie and Rhiannon now.
