Lucille Henderson Obituary

Lucille Mastin Henderson

Lucille Mastin Henderson, 83, of Stafford County, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2023.

Lucille loved antiquing, she attended auctions and sales in search of jewelry, glassware, and other odd treasures, which she then researched and sold at the shops she rented in Downtown Fredericksburg. Gardening and growing beautiful flowers was one of her favorite pastimes. She would often cut a rose or hydrangea from her garden as a parting gift to visitors. Lucille enjoyed reading, and could often be found cozied up on the sofa reading anything from jewelry catalogs to medical literature. When they were sick as children, her sons recall calling her "Dr. Henderson" because of how many hours Lucille spent reading medical books while nursing them back to health. When she came across an article that made her think of a loved one, she would set it aside until she could give it to the intended recipient.

Lucille, while quiet, never shied away from a family event or function. If she wasn't hosting, she was bringing a side dish to share. Lucille was a giver, and she often went out of her way to help others. She raised her children on their family farm, and found a place for many a sickly or stray animal; there always seemed to be a resident cat at their house, despite her husband's objections. While they had many family dogs, later in life she and her husband enjoyed the companionship of her two chihuahuas, Shane and Tucker.

Lucille is survived by her sons, David Henderson Jr. (Carol) and Gregory Henderson (Kristen); grandchildren, Rachel Adams, Lauren, David III, Brian, Aidan, Camdan, Bradan, Dylan, and Piper Henderson; great-grandchildren, Teagan Adams and Ember Henderson; and nieces, Pat Preston and Jackie Anderson. Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, David Henderson Sr.; sisters, Earla Anderson and Ruby Pritchett; and her daughter, Lisa Golden.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, January 13, 2023, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at stjude.org/donate.

Wishing peace and comfort to the Henderson Family...Lucille & I had our antique shop right next to each other ~ in the back corner for 20+ years, at The Antique Court of Shoppes. Lucille was the sweetest person, she always had a smile on her face & a twinkle in her eye, talking in her soft ~ slow southern accent. Lucille's 2 sisters would stop by weekly for a visit. Memories of Rachel when she was young girl spending time with grandma in her shop. Lucille loved antiquing and her shop but more than anything ~ Lucille LOVED HER FAMILY. I would ask "what did you make Dave for breakfast" or Lucille would say "I have to go home & make dinner for Dave"...I always thought she is the BEST WIFE !! The last time I saw Lucille was in 2015, she told me the devastating news of Lisa, I held her tight knowing her heart was broken. I know Dave and Lisa greeted Lucille with open arms. Hold tight to the memories of a life well lived. Best Regards, Linda Edelstein
