Margaret Pitts Freeman

Margaret Pitts Freeman, 89, passed into the loving arms of Jesus surrounded by her family on Sunday, April 4, 2021. She was born March 22, 1932 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

She was married to the love of her life, Donald G. Freeman, for 68 wonderful years. Originally having met in elementary school, their marriage was quite a love story for the ages.

Margaret was a life-long resident of Fredericksburg and a graduate of James Monroe High School. Margaret truly had a servant's heart and passionately served both her church and her community. At Trinity Episcopal Church, she faithfully served on the Vestry, had the privilege of being a Lay Reader and served as a member on the Altar Guild.

Her heart's work of volunteering with Mary Washington Hospital Auxiliary for 15 years included giving tours when the state of the art facility first opened, volunteering in the Radiology Department, and impactfully raising money for Hospice support through fashion shows, teas, and community functions.

Margaret's heart for hospitality, beautiful gift of singing, and vivacious personality brought joy to everyone who met her. And yet, it was her fierce love for her family that remarkably set her apart.

Margaret was a beloved wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother, and doting great grandmother. The legacy she leaves behind of faith, family and love will live on for generations to come.

Margaret is survived by her husband and two daughters, Beth Willis (Gene) and Ann Evans (David). She was the cherished Grandmother to her four grandchildren - who affectionately called her Nanny - Mark Willis, Hunter Willis (Loren), Allison Mari (Chris), and Elizabeth Evans. She is also survived by five great grandchildren: Bryce, Braydon, Abby, Grayson and Olive.

A private celebration of life will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery April 10, 2021.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mary Washington Hospital Hospice Services.
