Marilyn Lou (Hamilton) Elwell
Marilyn Lou (Hamilton) Elwell, formerly of Fredericksburg, passed peacefully away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at her Park Oak Grove Assisted Living apartment in Roanoke. She was surrounded at her bedside by members of her beloved family and blanketed in the love of her family members afar.
Marilyn was a lifelong and devoted parishioner of the St. Mary's Catholic Parish in Fredericksburg dating back to 1957 at its location on Princess Anne Street. She, along with her husband Jack, were instrumental in the building fund campaign which led to the construction and dedication of St. Mary's at its current location. She was a partner to, and the silent strength behind Jack's long history of civic service to the Fredericksburg community. She will long be remembered for her unconditional love of family, her thoughtful and selfless devotion for her friends and neighbors, and a lifetime of kindness to others.
She is survived by her children, John P. Elwell of Houston, TX, Susan E. McCaleb (John), of Richmond, David W. Elwell (Sue) of Smith Mountain Lake, Charles J. Elwell (Marsha), of Roanoke, and Michael J. Elwell (Diana), of Frisco, TX; 12 grandchildren, Dr. Kyler Elwell (Dr. Brad Silver), of Dallas, TX, Bryan McCaleb (Jackie), of Mechanicsville, Mark McCaleb, and Ana Amaya of Richmond, Erin Mallow (Dr. Jason Mallow), of Richmond, John Elwell (Shelby), of Richmond, Patrick Elwell of Winchester, Evan Elwell of Falls Church, Annie Elwell of Roanoke, Brittany Cohen (Jeremy), of Keller, TX, Sean Elwell (Lauren) of Justin, TX, Catherine Carrell (Chase), of Aubrey, TX, and Becca Elwell of Frisco, TX; 12 great-children, Olive, Hamilton, and Judson Silver of Dallas, TX, Jack and Sadie McCaleb of Richmond, Charlie and Everly Mallow of Richmond, Beckett Elwell of Richmond, Noah and Tommy Elwell of Justin, TX, and Emma Kate and Caroline Cohen of Keller, TX; her sister-in-law, Dolores Hamilton, of Buffalo, NY; and her brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Joan Elwell, of Orchard Park, NY. Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Jack; parents Charles and Lucille Hamilton; brother Donald Hamilton; and sister Barbara LaBarbera.
A Mass celebrating Marilyn's life will be held on Monday, November 15, at 10:30 AM, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Fredericksburg. The Mass will be preceded by a Rosary Service at 10:00 AM. Marilyn will be interred with her husband, Jack in the Quantico National Cemetery in a private family service.
