Robert C. Blaemire
Robert C. "Cork" Blae-mire, 86, of Falls Run in Fredericksburg, passed away on Nov. 6, 2010, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Born April 13, 1924, in Hammond, Ind., he entered the Marine Corps in August of 1943 and served in the South Pacific with the 1st Armored Amphibian Tank Division in battles at Guam, Marianas and Okinawa. He joined the Hammond Fire Department in 1947 and retired as Assistant Chief in 1974. He attended St. Joseph Calumet Campus for a degree in history.
Cork and his wife, Donna, moved to Manassas in 1974 and opened Cloud Nine Gifts and Smoke Shop. They moved to the Falls Run area of Fredericksburg in 2005. Cork had a passion for his family, football, friends, music and history.
He is survived by his wife, Donna, who shared a marriage of 64 years; a daughter, Donna Rae of Falls Run; his sons, Bob and wife, Joanna, of Bethesda, Md., Mike of Mount Airy, Md. and Kevin and wife, Robin, of Nokes-ville; his grandchildren, Jessica Thaxter and husband, Peter, of Chicago, Ill., Brian and wife, Erin, of Bristow, Kevin, Nick, Dan, Valerie and Ian Blaemire; and his great-granddaughter, Brynna.
His brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He was the youngest of eight, and there are nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
Cork and Donna were members of the Falls Run Singers, Fire Department Auxiliary and docents at the National Museum of the Marine Corps at Quantico.
A memorial service will be held in the near future at Falls Run, and his ashes will be interred at Quantico.
