Roland M. Finney
Roland M. Finney Sr., 78, of Fairview Beach in King George County passed away Monday, June 27, 2011, at Kindred Hospital in Richmond after a long illness.
Mr. Finney was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a life member of VFW Post 3103 and a member of American Legion Post 290. He had worked for Robert B. Payne for many years and retired as the co-owner of Foster Fuel and Cool. He also remodeled and built homes for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Hancy K. Finney; four children, Melvin R. Finney Jr. of Fairview Beach, Dorothy Mae Keaton and her husband, Carlos, of Fauquier County, Alvin Dale Finney of White Oak and Tracy Lee Finney of Fairview Beach; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Edith W. Shelton of Fredericksburg, Anna O. Finney of Quantico, Helen M. Wingo and her husband, Louie, of Florida and Virginia F. Garner and her husband, Bobby, of King George; two brothers, Charles R. Finney and his wife, Pauline, of Spotsylvania County and William L. Finney and his wife, Marion, of Stafford County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Elsie Finney; and two sisters, Mary E. Tingler and Celesta M. Powell.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 1, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel, with the Rev. R. Kenneth Brooks officiating. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home chapel. Interment with military honors will follow at noon in Quantico National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to King George Fire and Rescue, 8122 Kings Highway, King George, Va. 22485 or to Fairview Beach Erosion Fund, Box 183, King George, Va. 22485.
