Ruby Lee Kennedy Hawkins, age 91, of King George, VA passed away peacefully on August 30, 2021 after a valiant and brave struggle with Alzheimer's. Despite her illness, Ruby demonstrated a love of life and a love for all the people, whom from beginning to end, God had placed in her life.

The oldest of six children, Ruby was born on November 25, 1929, on a dairy and tobacco farm in Halifax County, VA to Mattie and Luther Kennedy. Like her parents, Ruby knew what it meant to work hard and to put others first. When she married Arnold Hawkins in January 1948, together they carried this knowledge forward in creating their own homestead in Passapatanzy, a place where they always made family and friends alike, feel at home.

In her own career, Ruby got started when James "Jimmy" Pates, both her mentor and broker, saw her great potential and took a chance on her. For more than 58 years she was a successful real estate agent primarily in the Fredericksburg area and also handled listings throughout the great state of Virginia. The best part of her job, she always said though, "Was being with people and being able to help them." Ruby always lived by the Golden Rule "of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you" and in doing so, always managed to remind people how special they were inside and out.

Ruby was a loving daughter, sister, mother, aunt, and grandmother plus a faithful friend to many. Her love for God, family, friends, and for all the good people of Fletcher's Chapel, always guided her on the path of her life here on Earth and towards the one she always firmly and faithfully believed was next. Ruby's absence is already greatly felt and her presence will forever be missed.

Ruby is survived by her son David Hawkins (Cathy); daughter Kay R. Hawkins (JR); grandson Chris Hawkins (Sherri); grandson DJ Hawkins (Tabitha); grandson Brian Plum (Stephanie); granddaughter Katie Plum (John); sister Susie K. Brichant; sister-in-law Sylvia Kennedy. Ruby is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She is predeceased by her husband Arnold Hawkins; brothers Billy Kennedy, Luke Kennedy, Stuart Kennedy, and Patrick Kennedy.

Please join us in celebrating her life September 7, 2021 at Covenant Funeral Home, 4801 Jefferson Davis Hwy, Fredericksburg, VA. Visitation begins at 9:30 am, Service at 11:00 am followed by graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
