Sidney Hannick Obituary

Sidney Hannick

Born in Fredericksburg, Virginia, Sid was raised on a farm in King George with his seven siblings. He enlisted in the Army and spent time in Vietnam, after which he began working at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division as a technician testing radar systems. He loved the job and the people he worked with; he made friends everywhere he went. Sid was universally loved and respected - personally and professionally. He was incredibly proud of his children and their accomplishments and spoke highly of them to friends and family. An avid adventurer, Sid loved fishing, canoeing, spelunking, and cooking crabs with his siblings in the summertime. One of his favorite pastimes was playing Bridge, especially with his close friends Tommy Saft, Rod Burrell, and Harry Ovitt. He will be sorely missed and memories of him will always be cherished.

Survivors include children, Lindsay Hannick and Eric Hannick (Amanda); grandchildren, Jayley Beer, Dax Hannick, and Bowen Hannick; siblings, Wayne Hannick, Ruth Rapson, Dennis Hannick, Thomas Hannick, Steve Hannick, Marie Conner, and Teresa Hannick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Ruth Earleen Hannick.

Per his own instructions there will be no funeral service, but the family will receive friends for a celebration of life at Highmark Brewery (309 Kings Hwy) from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

I have such fond memories of working with Sid. In addition to being very technically competent and great at his job, it was his caring and helpful attitude (towards everyone) that I remember most. He always had a smile on his face and nothing seemed to bother him. He represented everything good about Dahlgren and I will be forever grateful for having known Sid.

Sid was one of the two key people that I felt all newly hired Dahlgren employees should get to know. Sid never hesitated to help out anyone and everyone, regardless of the topic (from electromagnetics to kale gardening to driveway paving). If Sid didn't already know the answer, he'd find it. And he always did so with a smile. Sid was truly a class act, a gentleman, a kind and generous person who made the world a better place.

Sid was a friend of my dad´s and someone who always took the time to tell me stories about the good old days. He was an incredibly kind man and I´m so glad to have known him.

Sid was such a nice person, the kind who would always stop what he was doing to stop and talk with you such that you would always part with a smile. Frankie and I are keeping all the family in our prayers.
