William Monroe, Jr
William "Johnny" Monroe, Jr., age 85, of King George, VA passed away at home on Sunday, October 12, 2025, peacefully with his family by his side. He was the second child born to the late William "Smokey" Monroe and Ernestine Zell on March 13, 1940.
Johnny was raised and grew up in Springfield, VA. He was a painter for 39 years with the International Union Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) before retiring in 1997. He loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family and friends. The Monroe Farm was a gathering place for family & friends. He always made everyone feel like they were family.
He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 66 years, Loretta "Jean" Bauserman. He is survived by his four sons, William "Buck" Monroe III (Charlene), Steve Monroe (Sheila), Kevin Monroe, Bryan Monroe (Cynthia) and daughter in law Dawn Monroe, Widow of Aaron Monroe.
He leaves behind 16 Grandchildren, Julie Lynn Monroe, Michael Monroe, Sarah Ewoldt, Megan Garabedian, Becky Bloxton, William Monroe IV, Ashley Robinson, Mary-Scott DeMarchis, Robyn Silcox, Kristen Monroe, Cameron-Ann Monroe, Steven Monroe, Nicole Strubhar, MacKenzie-Page Harrison, Wyatt Monroe and Dakota Monroe; 21 great-grandchildren, Anthony Payne, Joseph Garabedian, Daegan Robinson, Jacob Garabedian, Ashton Taylor, Daniel Bloxton, Jaxon Robinson, Sophia Monroe, Austin Bloxton, Quinn Robinson, Caleb Monroe, Audrey Ewoldt, William Monroe V, Aspen Robinson, Berkley Robinson, Brayden Rollins, Grayson Ewoldt, Aaron-James Harrison, Edyln Monroe, Barret DeMarchis and Brody DeMarchis; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ari and Ayla Payne. He also leaves behind several extended family members.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, William and Ernestine; two sisters, Mary Lou Scott and Nancy Clate; one brother, James; son, Aaron; daughter in law, Carolyn; great granddaughter, Josephine; and great grandson, Mattox-Crew.
The Monroe family will receive friends on Saturday, October 25, from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Colonial Beach. A celebration of life will begin at 1 p.m. with a reception to follow.
