Yolanda Ruiz

Yolanda Ruiz, 70, of Fredericksburg passed from our lives Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, after a courageous battle with cancer. Over the past five years, she had endured the adversity of chemotherapy while being active in local activities.

She was a member of the Aquia Harbour Yacht Club, Mid-Potomac Power Squadron and Ladies Evening Lions of Aquia, where she was a past president and secretary. In 2003, she received the President's Award for Outstanding Lioness Leadership. She was an avid traveler, artist, writer, philanthropist, citizen advocate and academic purveyor of the law.

She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Carlos; her sons, Daniel of California, Donald of Arizona, Carlos of Colorado, Richard and Anthony, both of Maryland and Michael and Nicholas of Virginia; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Alice Rodriguez, Theresa Lanahan and Bertha Valdez, all of Texas; and a brother, Al Enriquez of Virginia.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, Stafford Chapel. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service time. Inurnment will take place in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made in her name to "My Yoli Breakfast With Santa" at 1416 Washington Drive, Stafford, Va. 22554.
