Jane Smith Obituary

SMITH

JANE MARZELLI Passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, Jane attended Michigan State University where she met, fell for, and married O.L. "Snuffy" Smith III, whom she lived with for five decades building a family and a life. She spent most of her career as a C.P.A. and tax attorney, specializing in employee benefits -- a field that many would call boring, but she found to be the world's most complex math puzzle, like Sudoku on steroids. Really, though, Jane was most proud of her kids, her family, and everything she was when she wasn't working. She was a devout Catholic, and really dug this new, progressive Pope. She gave her time and energy to women business owners who needed legal assistance, as well as to friends, family, charities and even strangers who were in need. She claimed to hate cats but she brought home many strays and stragglers and over thirty years owned a dozen of them. Taking night classes while working full time, she earned her J.D. at Detroit College of Law -- she thought it was patently stupid to think there was anything she couldn't do just because she was a woman, and she was right. Jane is survived by her husband, Snuffy; and their three children, Heather, Lia, and Gordon; as well as their spouses, Jordan, Jack, and Brooke. She also leaves behind a happy gaggle of grandkids, whom she adored, Olivia, Evan, Kat, Sophie, and Alex. If you were lucky enough to have known Jane, then you will undoubtedly miss her. If you didn't know her, then you missed out. For charitable donations in her memory, or information on memorial services, please contact [email protected].
