Arthur Charles "Charlie" Hoffman
August 9, 1951 - November 25, 2025
Arthur Charles "Charlie" Hoffman, age 74, passed away on Monday, November 25, 2025, in Fremont, Neb. Born on August 9, 1951, to Josephine Bailey and Arthur Charles Hoffman, Charlie's life was defined by a big heart, kindness, intelligence, humor, and his love for friends and family.
Charlie was born in Glen Ellyn, a Chicago suburb. He attended high school at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts, graduating in 1969. After attending Duke University and playing basketball, Charlie transferred to Stanford University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in history in 1973, and an MBA in 1976. During his years at Stanford, he broadcast football games, and was a sports editor, and served as editor-in-chief of The Stanford Daily, a role that shaped much of his identity and purpose. He co-founded the Friends of The Stanford Daily Foundation, which supports the work of The Stanford Daily Publishing Corporation. Charlie was inducted into the Stanford Daily Hall of Fame on Friday, November 21, 2025.
After completing his education, Charlie ventured into a career in entrepreneurship and business, serving on the boards of multiple organizations and contributing his thoughtful perspective and dependable leadership wherever he was called. He and his wife, Jane, built their life together first in Palo Alto, California, where they began raising their family. They moved to Fremont, Neb., in 1986 where they raised their four sons.
Charlie was an avid reader and followed global and local news with genuine curiosity and never lost his passion for history. He traveled often - always happiest near the ocean - and loved skiing, golf, tennis and cheering on his four boys in every sport, milestone, and season of their lives.
His heart for mentorship extended beyond his own family. Charlie was deeply involved in the Tom Osborne Teammates Program, guiding young people with patience, encouragement, and a belief in their potential. He was a long-time member of Rotary. A member of St. James' Episcopal Church in Fremont and served on the vestry and a term as warden.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Jane Martin-Hoffman; and his four sons, A.C. (Kristie), John (Jessica), Andrew (Bianca), and Joe (Amanda); and six grandchildren, Olivia, Stella, Charlie, Arthur, Raife, and Elly. He is survived by his two sisters, Sue (Skip) King and Araminta (Robert) Schnack; and his aunt, Dorothy Harza. His legacy lives on in each of them - in their laughter, their curiosity, and their love for one another.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 2nd, at 1 p.m. at St. James' Episcopal Church in Fremont, Neb.
