Delbert John Uhlik, Sr.
November 9, 1927 -April 7, 2024
Delbert John Uhlik Sr., age 96, passed from this life on April 7th, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in Millard, Nebraska. Delbert was born on November 9, 1927 in Verdigre, Nebraska to John and Martha Uhlik. He graduated from Verdigre High School. He married the love of his life, Norma Konopasek on June 11th, 1952 and together they made their home in Fremont, Nebraska and blessed to bring into life seven children. He worked at Hormel for many years and held various other part time positions.
Delbert's faith was central to everything he did. He was a member of St. Patrick's Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus as a life member in the 3rd degree. Every morning you could find Delbert watching Mass on EWTN as well as praying his rosary.
He had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson, both on solo journeys as well as riding with his beloved wife, Norma. A loyal Cornhusker Football fan, he loved attending games with family members and if he could not attend, he never missed watching them play on television. Growing African Violets and tending to them was something that brought him great satisfaction. One of his greatest loves was raising and caring for his dogs…from Pugs to Boxers to Schnauzers, and Boston Terriers, their unconditional love and affection brought Delbert so much joy. Above all of that, family was a priority. All you had to do was walk through his house and you would find the walls filled with family photos. He always looked forward to family reunions over the 4th of July. Watching fireworks, making homemade ice cream, visiting with his children and receiving many hugs and kisses from his grandchildren and great grandchildren was so special to him.
Survivors include sons Joe and wife Cindy Uhlik of Fremont, NE, and Jim Uhlik of Castro Valley, CA; Delbert John Uhlik Jr of Carroll, IA; Doug Uhlik of Fremont, NE; Rev. Charles and Susie Uhlik of Paducah, KY; Christopher and wife Michele Uhlik of Chula Vista, CA; daughter Mary Jo and husband Jim Hartung of Fremont, NE; 16 grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren and 2 on the way.

Back in about 1973 I had the pleasure of working part time at Phillips 66 on Bell Street with Del. What a great guy! Always enjoyed when we got to work together.
