The funeral for Dwayne "George" Karlin, 73, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church at Fremont.
He died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002, at Fremont Area Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 22, 1929, in Fremont. He grew up in Fremont and graduated from Fremont High School. During his high school years, he worked for Bower's Motors. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1947-1952. He served on the attack transport U.S.S. Henrico, and he saw duty in Korea from 1950-1952. After military duty, he returned to Fremont and was employed by George A. Hormel Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1986.
He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and he was a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League at Trinity. He also was a member of American Legion Post 20 and Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 854 of Fremont.
He married Nellie Maslonka Jan. 16, 1955, in Fremont.
Survivors include: his wife; a daughter, Julie (Mrs. Kent) Bang of Omaha; a brother, Herman (and wife, Ellen) Karlin of Fremont; several brothers and sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews; and two grandsons.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
The Rev. Phillip Vance and Vicar Michael Meyer will officiate Monday's service. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday at Ludvigsen Mortuary in Fremont, with the family receiving friends from 2-4 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery in Fremont with the United States Flag Presentation.
