Richard "Dick" D. Houser

Richard "Dick" D. Houser, 81, of Fremont passed away Friday, Sept. 4, 2020, at his home. Dick was born Aug. 8, 1939, in Wilbur, Nebraska, to Fred and Judith (Vilda) Houser. He moved to the Fremont area as a child. He graduated from Fremont High School in 1956 and after graduation joined the Army. Dick married Sharon Jean Ruff in North Bend, Nebraska on Sept. 24, 1961.

Dick was a member of St. Timothy's Lutheran Church, the Fremont Sertoma Club, and the Pathfinders wood carving club. He refereed numerous football and basketball games across the state, as well as umpired baseball and softball games. He also coached little league baseball and softball.

Survivors include daughters, Tamala Hanson of Omaha and Shawna (Brett) Elder of Iowa City, Iowa; granddaughter, Cheyenne Hanson of Fremont; significant other, Jackie Welander of Fremont; sisters-in-law, Barb Houser, Marilyn Houser, Verlaine Mundy, all of Fremont, and Charlotte Callahan of Gold Canyon, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents; wife, Sharon; 5 brothers, Victor, Frank, George, Gene, and Ken; sister, Dorothy.

Dick has donated his body to science and a memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont with livestreaming available to the public.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Timothy Lutheran Church or Friends of the Animals Center Foundation (FACF).

I never shared the privilege of working with Dick at Bomgaars...but he would stop in once in while if he was working on a project...we we're sure to give him a hard in peace
