Valentine H. "Valen" Batenhorst, 86, of West Point died April 22, 2004, at West Point Living Center.
Batenhorst was born Feb. 14, 1918, on the family farm northwest of West Point. He attended school at District 6 and graduated junior high at Guardian Angels Catholic School in West Point.
Batenhorst married Dorothy M. Buerman on April 26, 1939, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Aloys. The couple farmed their entire life northwest of West Point.
He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Holy Name Society, both of Beemer.
Survivors include: his wife; three daughters, Janice (Mrs. Art) Pieper of Lafayette, Ind., Elaine (Mrs. Vince) Maly of West Point and Lois (Mrs. Allen) Steuter of Johnstown; two sons, Kenneth (and wife, Marjorie) Batenhorst and Dennis Batenhorst, all of West Point; three sisters, Verna Reiman of West Point, Ethel Ruskamp of Columbus and Marcella Praest of Dodge; 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Beemer with the Rev. Gerald Gonderinger officiating. Wake services will be 7 p.m. Sunday at Stalp Funeral Home in West Point. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Holy Cross Section in Beemer Cemetery.
Memorials have been established to Holy Cross Catholic Church or St. Francis Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Renovation in West Point.
Stalp Funeral Home in West Point is in charge of arrangements.
