Vera Harris

The funeral for Vera L. Harris, 64, of Fremont will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Timothy Lutheran Church at Fremont.

She died Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha.

Vera Smith was born Jan. 18, 1938, at Council Bluffs, Iowa. She grew up at Council Bluffs and lived there until 1963 when she moved to Hastings. She moved to Fremont in 1968 and graduated from Bahner's Beauty College in 1971. She then opened her own beauty shops, the 10th Street Beauty Shop and Vera's Beauty Shop.

She married Bill Harris April 10, 1955, at Council Bluffs.

She was a member of St. Timothy Lutheran Church and sang in the church choir and taught special classes at the church. She was a member of the Fremont YMCA. She was also an oil paint artist.

Survivors include: her husband; two sons, Robin (and wife, Colleen) Harris of Livingston, Mont. and John Harris of Omaha; two daughters, Julie (Mrs. Doyle) Johnson and Penny (Mrs. James) Schurkamp all of Fremont; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.

The Rev. John W. Plowman will officiate Monday's service. Closed casket visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday with the family receiving friends from 2-3 p.m. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Closed casket visitation will continue one hour prior to service Monday at the church. Burial will be in Ridge Cemetery in Fremont.

A memorial has been established to St. Timothy Lutheran Church Special Classes.
