Constantine Michas Obituary

Constantine Michas
May 21, 1941 - November 3, 2020
Walnut Creek, California - Constantine Alexander Michas died peacefully on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020 at the age of 79. Con was a resident of Fresno, California for 38 years. He moved to Walnut Creek, California three years ago. At the time of his death, he resided at Carnelian Assisted Living, a memory care provider there.
Con was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on May 21st, 1941 to John and Catherine Michas. The older of two sons, he attended General Gordon Elementary School and Kitsilano Secondary School. He attended the University of British Columbia, graduating in three years, and directly entered UBC's Faculty of Medicine, class of 1966. He was an intern at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and a surgical resident at the University of Michigan where he met his wife of 51 years, Justine Taylor of Mt. Clemens, Michigan. They settled in Sacramento where he completed the last year of his residency at the University of California at Davis. He stayed on as associate professor, developing the first burn unit there. In 1979, he joined Surgical Associates of Fresno and practiced general and vascular surgery for 30 years. Con was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was active in the medical community of Fresno. He was devoted to his patients, to his office staff, and to the staff, nurses and doctors at Fresno Community, Clovis Community and Saint Agnes Hospitals.
In addition to Justine and his brother John Michas of Vancouver, BC, Con is survived by his four children: Christina, Alex, Andreas and Gregory; their spouses: Jimmy Wallenstein, Ariane Michas, Sara Michas-Martin and Tyla Michas; six grandchildren: Oscar and Sylvie Wallenstein, Ophelia and Soren Michas, Jonah Michas-Martin, and Ethan Michas; and a large extended family. All of his children and their families returned to reside in California, satisfying his greatest wish that they be near one another.
Con traveled widely, grew fruit and vegetables in his garden, and played poker with friends. He loved a beautiful landscape, skiing and hiking in Tahoe, and his home in Carmel-by-the-Sea. He was proud of his Greek heritage, loyal to his Canadian roots, and became a US citizen in 2012. He had a wonderful positive spirit. He was generous and kind. He loved to hug. Above all, Con loved to be surrounded by his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

Dr Michas was my physician for many years. He always was professional and I had the utmost trust in him and his treatment of fibrosistic cysts he irradiated
Only Dr Phillip Richtel and Dr Than Albee Aw have ever had that trust for me which is extremely important to me
God Bless his family with the knowledge he will be at the gates of Heaven to welcome them one day. He went directly to Heaven and is at Peace in the arms of Our Lord

Oh how I loved this man from the first time I met him at UCD Medical Center in Sacramento until he graciously accepted the role of Chief of Staff at Clovis Community Hospital oh so many years ago when no one wanted to take on this role. It was because of his monumental efforts that CCH plays such a prominent role in health care today in the Central Valley. Sylvia and I always felt that Justine and Con were the perfect couple. We´re sorry we did not know of his illness.

I have just seen that Dr. Michas has passed away. I was so sad to see this. I was a nurse who worked at Saint Agnes for many years. I just want to say that Dr. Michas was always one of my favorite Dr’s, he was always so kind with the patients and with the staff. He was a great surgeon and it was a honor to have known him and to have worked with him for so many years. My condolences to the family.

Dr Michas was my doctor for many years until his illness caused him to retire. Only one other physician held my great respect, confidence and trust, Dr Philip Richtel ,who brought me into this world.
I used to tease Dr Michas he had “The Michas Touch” because he was so professional and proficient in his practice.
I have missed being able to be treated by him for my cyst disease or to see him rushing to surgery, at Fresno Surgical Center, always taking the time to acknowledge my existence in the very warm, friendly spirit he exuded to all !
I’m glad he is a peace in the presence of Our Lord knowing he went directly to Heaven because he was such a good man!

Con always greeted you with a smile and a bear hug. He was a gifted surgeon and devoted family man. Looking back over the years that we shared together at work and outside work, we are grateful to have had Con and Justine in our lives. He is missed but always remembered in our hearts.

Justine ... I am so sorry for your loss after a long and arduous journey. I had such admiration for both Con and you and loved sharing jokes with him. Laughter is the best medicine after all. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Dr. Michas saved my life in the 1980's at Community Hospital in Fresno. I had a burst appendix on a holiday and he was assigned to perform the surgery. It was the luckiest day of my life. I got to know him during the recovery in the hospital and the follow up visits to his offices. Caring, professional and a warming personality. I think of him and that day often.
