DENISE GAMEZ ALVAREZ "Dee" Denise, age 47, of Firebaugh, passed away on Sunday, May 16, 2004, after an extended illness. Born in Fresno, "Dee" has been a lifelong resident of the westside, living in Mendota and Firebaugh where she most recently had been a Teacher's Aide at the Hazel Bailey Elementary School until her illness prevented her from working. An advocate for children's education, Dee was active in the Migrant Education Program, and the "Reach" after school program. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Gamez; and also by her husband, Danny Alvarez. Dee is survived by her children, Heather Gamez and Brittany Alvarez; and her mother, Dora Gamez, all of Firebaugh. She is the sister of Tommy Gamez and his wife Nora of Dos Palos, Mike Gamez and his wife Bonnie, and Mark Gamez and his wife Rosie, all of Fresno, and Joyce Maldonado and her husband Isaac of Mendota. She is the niece of Dennis Carroll of Mendota; and is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Firebaugh on Thursday, May 21, 2004, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with the Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, May 22, 2004, at 9:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Fresno Memorial Gardens.
