DONALD GREGG RICHARD UNDERDOWN

Donald Gregg Richard Underdown passed in peace on Saturday, May 13, 2017, surrounded by his family. A longtime resident of Fresno, CA, he was born in Pomona, CA on December 4, 1944, the son of Eleanor and Donald Underdown. A Bullard High School All-Star baseball player, Gregg completed his education there in 1962. He went on to play baseball for California State University, Fresno, and graduated in 1966, with degrees in Art, Marketing and Business. A published cartoonist, an avid painter and golfer, Gregg and his sons went on to run a successful local trucking company, Armadillo Trucking, for over 20 years. His children will remember cheering him on from the stands when he spent weekends racing around Sears Point and Laguna Seca Raceways in his Sports 2000 racecar, An avid San Francisco Giants and Fresno State fan, he is known for early trips to Candlestick or catching a Bulldog game in his usual seats. His grandchildren will remember his hearty smile and him attending their baseball, soccer, basketball or volleyball games throughout the years. Gregg and Mary made friends wherever they went and they share many loving memories during their time residing in Carmel, CA, and Prescott; AZ. His family and friends will miss seeing Gregg on the course at San Joaquin and grabbing a beer and a story with him in the clubhouse. Gregg will forever be remembered for his quick wit, warm heart, and strength of character. He leaves behind five children whom he loved deeply, Kristin, Donny, Jon, Tom, and Mike; and their mother Kay. Gregg was also a very doting grandfather of 13 wonderful children. He could always be found laughing and joking with his younger brother, "Gus" Underdown on and off the golf course. Gregg leaves behind his devoted wife Mary, and her daughter Jennifer. A Memorial Service will be held at Northwest Church on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hinds Hospice, 2490 W.
