Edwina "Kjar" Upton

EDWINA "KJAR" UPTON Edwina was born on February 27, 1918, in Fresno, CA, to William and Beaulah Puryear. She went to be with the Lord on June 12, 2002. She attended local schools and graduated from Fresno High School in 1937. After graduating from Fresno High she entered Fresno Beauty College where she met her best friend Lucille Reyburn. The two worked together off and on for over 40 years, and ended their career in 1985, at Tarpey Village Beauty Salon. In 1938, Edwina married James Kjar, after nearly 23 years the marriage led to a divorce. She then married Robert Van Slyke and unfortunately lost him to Parkinson's Disease. Her last marriage was to Maury Upton, which ended shortly after marriage upon his death due to cancer. Edwina was a loving and caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, and "Grammie", as well as a friend to whom ever she met. For so many years we have dreamt of a day when you would wake up and to you we could say. "You've been away for so long and we've missed you so, we might not have told you we just want you to know. What a contribution you've made to us with your loving heart, And although you've left us we will never be apart, For someday God's kingdom is where we'll all be, Free from all our earthly pain and misery. We look so forward to standing at heaven's gate, When you say to us once again please come on in it's getting late." Beside her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by her brother Kenneth C. Puryear who passed away just one short day before her. She is survived by her son Stanley Kjar and his wife Pamela of Kingsburg; grandson Stanley Kjar, Jr. of Kingsburg; granddaughter Karlene Kjar Graham and her husband, Tucker of Hanford; , great-granddaughter Kera Graham of Hanfordl and brother Howard Puryear and his wife Alene of Springfield, OR. Services were held at Mountain View Cemetery, on Monday, June 17, 2002, at 10:00 A.M. Remembrances may be made to Valley Children's Hospital, 9300 Valley Children's Place, Madera, CA 93638.
