Gene was born in Seattle, Washington to parents Evelyn and Edward Kendall on December 29th, 1938. While serving in the Navy, Gene met his wife Bonnie and they raised their daughter Cindi together. He committed his life to public service from the Convention and Visitor Bureaus in Santa Cruz and South Lake Tahoe to supporting Unions as an independent consultant. Gene was a passionate fighter for what he believed in and was well loved by his friends and family. He loved to laugh and he lived for his family. Sadly, Gene passed away December 11th, 2022 just shy of his 84th birthday.
Gene is survived by his wife Bonnie; siblings Steven, Karen, and Trish; grandchildren Crishuana and Cameron and 8 great-grandchildren
A celebration of life will be held on January 21st at the Piccadilly Hotel on West Shaw Avenue at 1:00 p.m.

Gene was a true pioneer, leader in Fresno labor. Many benefits enjoyed today by both working and retired are do to his tenacity and diligence!

I met Gene, after I came to Fresno as the new California School Employees Association (CSEA) Field Director for the Fresno Field Office, in 1992, at a Coalition of Organized Labor (COOL) luncheon. We worked together, for a number of years, as trustees on the COOL Board. Gene and I were instrumental in developing a COOL Strategic Planning Summit that resulted in a number of of local organized labor goals including the resurrection of a union newspaper that was mailed to several thousand union members on a periodic basis for several years. Later, Gene agreed to serve as a Merit System Commissioner at the State Center Community College District, at CSEA´s request, where he all but singlehandedly corrected a number of significant deficiencies in the district´s merit system. Gene was always larger than life, he was always passionate about the issues he cared about and I know he loved his family. Gene lived a great life!
