James McCrory Obituary
Jim McCrory was born on November 16, 1934, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2008, in Fresno, California at the age of 73. Jim spent two years in the U.S. Army where he ran an Army Golf Course in Puerto Rico. He returned to attend Fresno City College and then Fresno State College where he received a B.A. degree in education. After graduation from college he worked one year at the Welfare Department and then became an Adult Parole Agent. He was loaned to the Department of Rehabilitation for five years in the 1970's where he made a lot of good friends and had great times. He retired from being a parole agent after 29 years. Jim was an avid golfer. While in college he played on the Fresno City College and then on the Fresno State golf teams. He played golf at Riverside, Airways, Palm Lakes, and at Fort Washington where he was a member for over 25 years. He was a member of the Fresno Cycle Club in the 1960's and later joined motorcycle clubs. His interest in motorcycles began at an early age. He purchased his first motor scooter at age 11. He and his family were members of several off-road motorcycle clubs. He started riding off-road motorcycles at age 26 and was still riding in events at the age of 62. He was a member of BWRRA Chapter E, Hot Wheels, and the Merced Dirt Riders motorcycle clubs. His love for travel included cross country street motorcycle rides with his wife and father. He also enjoyed many motorhome trips across the country with his family. Jim also enjoyed watching boxing, playing cards (for money), boating, spending time with his grandchildren and eating out and he always had a good story to tell about his many adventures. We will dearly miss all of the joy he brought to our family and he will be forever in our hearts. The family would like to thank all of Jim's doctors as well as the staff at DaVita for their compassion and care. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Darrel and Blanche McCrory; his brothers, Ray and Glen McCrory; and sister-in-law, Billie McCrory. He is survived by Ruth, his loving wife of 56 years; daughters, Sharon Thomason and her husband Scott of Eureka, Ca., and Sharlene Firmery of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren, Brian Thomason of Eureka, and Kristin and Mark Firmery of Flower Mound; brother, Claude McCrory and his wife Kathy; numerous nieces and nephews, and other beloved relatives and friends including the special neighbor girls, Leann and Allison Stephens.
