Jo left this world peacefully and joined her family in Heaven on Saturday, April 18, 2009, in Clovis, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Margaret and John C. Hitchcock; her brother, Warner Hitchcock; and her sister, Dorothy Cox, all of Texas.
She was born in Waxahachie, Texas on January 21, 1923, and came to California in 1944. In 1954 Jo and Bert, her husband, moved to Monterey Park where they raised four daughters who all graduated from Mark Keppel High School. Jo was Vice President of Atlantic Savings and Loan.
Jo and Bert moved to Fresno in 1972. They opened Cindy's Clothing and Furniture for Kids, one in Clovis and one in Fresno on Marks and Bullard. She was respected and loved in the community.
Jo loved Jesus and lived her life the way she felt Jesus would want her to. She was Chairman of Christian Women's Club and the Organizer for the Fresno area Friendship Bible Coffees. She and her daughters attended Hume Lake Women's conferences whenever possible. One year they performed as the "California Raisins," in "I heard it through the Grapevine." Jo had a sense of humor, loved her family and enjoyed life.
Jo left her family with hope in their hearts, joy in their daily living and a tremendous faith in their Savior, Jesus Christ. She always said, "Everything I do, I do for God."
Jo is survived by her four daughters, Margaret Doherty of Marina, Patty Wood, Cindy Pieroni and Debbie Cheselske all of Clovis; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren; and nephew, James Cox of Clovis.
A Memorial Service will be held for Jo at the New Hope Community Church, 4620 E. Nees Ave. in Clovis on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 11:00 a.m.
