John Mikuni Obituary

JOHN SHIGEO MIKUNI John passed away on Monday, December 22, 2003, at St. Agnes Medical Center. He was born in Walnut Grove, CA to Daikichi and Matsu Mikuni on June 20, 1921. As an infant he accompanied them to Japan. He was educated in schools there and at the age of 16 returned to the U.S. and lived in Oakland, and worked and spent the war years at various internment camps. On February 24, 1946, he married the former Amy Yemiko Takeuchi, from their union three sons were born, Alan, Ronald, and Dennis. In 1996 they celebrated their 50th anniversary. He was a retired farmer and gardener. He was active in the Fresno Buddhist Church, Lone Star Community Club, Nikkei Foundation, Byakudo Kai, Fresno Shigin Club, Nikkei Jin Kai, and the Church Senoirs Club. In the 1960's he was an active 4-H leader at Lone Star School. He enjoyed spending time with family, grandchildren, relatives, and friends. He was fond of traveling, fishing and sports. He is survived by his wife of almost 58 years, Amy; sons, Alan and his wife Diane, Ronald and his wife Donna, Dennis and his wife Sharon; and five grandchildren, Aaron, Russell, Cory, Stephanie, and Kristy; sister, Fumiko Okamura of Torrance; brothers, Toshiaki and Yukio; sisters, Hisako Ikeda, and Kiyoko Kimura, all of Japan; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank St. Agnes Medical Center and the many compassionate doctors and nurses who were so kind and gentle to our beloved one. John will be remembered as a caring, generous, compassionate person who was always smiling through the hardest of times. Visitation will be held at Lisle Funeral Home on Friday, December 26, 2003, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at Fresno Buddhist Church Annex on Saturday, December 27, 2003, at 10:00 a.m.

Ron,

So sorry to hear about your father. Hope he lived a good, long and enjoyable life....my father was a fisherman too so I know they are both in the heaven of rivers, lakes and streams.
