Joseph Zachary Obituary

Zack passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the age of 66. He was a devoted father and grandfather. His smile was never so bright as when he was with his grandchildren. He enjoyed home improvement projects and cooking for family and friends. Zack was born and raised in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Navy, submarine service, and was stationed at Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard, Hawaii. He also served in the Vietnam War. Zack was honorably discharged from the Navy after seven years of service. He continued to serve his country at Pearl Harbor working for the U.S. Civil Service. He retired in 1990, after 30 years of service, as Chief Test Engineer for nuclear submarines - a job he loved and thrived in. He married Carolyn Hagopian on May 18, 1968. Together they had three daughters, Malia, Kina and Sara. Zack was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn. He is survived by their three children, Malia Mooradian and her husband Thomas, Kina Harris and her husband John, and Sara Balli and her husband Sergio; his grandchildren, Mikaela, Nicholas and Zachary Harris, Isabella Balli, and granddaughter-to-be, Malina Balli; his sisters, Ann Temple and Heather Macomber and her husband Hank; and his brother, Paul Zachary and his wife Sharyn, along with many loved nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held at Yost & Webb Funeral Home, on Wednesday, March 4, 2009, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. George Greek Orthodox Church of Fresno, 2219 North Orchard, on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. Interment follows at Masis Ararat Cemetery. ZACK WAS A GOOD MAN I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HIS SMILE, MY PRAYERS GO OUT TO ALL OF THE FAMILY.

A very fine man gone to be with Christ in his sleep,
Causing his family and friends to weep.
They looked to the heavens for answers above,
The only reply, An Angel sending a single white dove.
Higher and higher, the dove it did soar,
Into the heavens to be seen no more.
The message came clear to all on the land,
This special fine man sits at Jesus Christ right hand.
He smiles down at Family and Friends below,
At the efforts they make to help others grow.
He wishes to tell them, he suffers no more,
And inspires this poem to open the door.
The sign that God sent, a dove pure white,
To tell them stop weeping, give up their fright.
Zach rests with The Father, The Son and Holy Ghost up above,
His soul borne to Heaven, on the wings of a dove.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF
JOSEPH ZACHARY

I remember meeting Zach when I was 16 on my first trip to Hawaii. My sister and I stayed at their house where Malia was just a baby learning to walk. Zach was the perfect host, making sure we enjoyed everything we could of the island and giving us a personal tour of a nuclear submarine. He had the same loving hospitality, high energy, and zest for life at that time - almost 40 years ago - that contined throughout his life. The loving attitude glowed from him when he was with his children and grandchildren. I will miss Zack. He was a giving, caring, sharing, special member of our family.
