Fresno, California - Karen Sue Benner, 78, of Fresno went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 20, 2023.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am July 8 at Hope Lutheran Church, 5435 N. Fresno St., Fresno. Neptune Society is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.neptunesocietyfresno.com
Karen was born June 6, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois to Ralph and Helen Henrickson. Her family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she was raised. She met the love of her life, Philip Henry Benner at a Lutheran church youth rally while in High School. They were married on September 4, 1965. She graduated from Arizona State University and became a teacher.
Karen taught elementary education in Glendale, AZ, and in the cities of Oakland, Merced, and Madera during her 27-year career. While in Madera, she was a member of the Alegria Guild, Madera County Arts Council, and the Newcomers Club. Karen was a member of Hope Lutheran Church for 28 years where she served as a bible study leader, helped in the church office, and assisted her husband with the Food Pantry.
Karen fondly known as Grammy is survived by her husband of 57 years, Philip Henry Benner Sr., son, Philip Henry Benner Jr., his wife Abbee, daughter, Merritt Benner Pacini, her husband Jon, and her grandchildren, Lyndsey Jones, her husband, George, Wesley Pacini, his wife, Erika, and Lilee Benner.
Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Henrickson, mother, Helen Henrickson, and her brother, David Henrickson.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to Hope Lutheran Church Food Pantry and Omega Fund (youth scholarship program).
