KENNETH NELSON Obituary

Kenneth Lee Nelson passed away on February 15, 2015, in Baltimore, Maryland. He was born on December 12, 1962, to Aaron and Darlene Nelson, in Fresno, CA. He graduated from Sanger High School in 1981, where he was Student Body President and Valedictorian of his class. He was active in FFA, Model United Nations, and student council. Ken graduated from University of California, Los Angeles in 1985, with a degree in Political Science; and earned a Master's Degree in International Relations at George Washington University in 1988; and a PHD in Mathematics from University of California, Santa Barbara in 1995. Ken met his wife Doreen while both were students at UCLA. They were married in August of 1994. Ken taught at Eastern Kentucky University for seven years, advancing to Chairman of the Mathematics Department. For the past 13 years, he was employed in Intelligence for the Defense Department in the Washington D.C. area. Ken was a lifelong avid reader, enjoyed backpacking, gourmet cooking, gardening, and most of all spending time with his family. Ken was preceded in death by his sister, Karen Nelson Reynolds. Ken is survived by his wife Doreen; his daughter Danielle of Glenwood, MD; his parents of Sanger, CA; and sister, Leanne of Sanger, CA. A Memorial Service will be held at the G.L. Johnson Chapel at Peoples Church, 7172 N. Cedar, Fresno, CA, on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Ken's honor to Glen Mar United Methodist Church, 4701 New Cut Road, Elliott City, MD 21043; or Peoples Church, 7172 North Cedar Avenue, Fresno, CA 93720.
