Lloyd Sciaroni Obituary

Lloyd G. Sciaroni, M.D. passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, January 21, 2008, with his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara, at his bedside. Dr. Sciaroni, a native of Fresno, was the only son of George H. Sciaroni, M.D. and Martha Sciaroni. He was preceded in death by both of his parents; and by his sister, Antoinette. Dr. Sciaroni attended local schools, graduating from Fresno High School in 1941. As a young boy he became an accomplished skeet shooter and was a member of the U.S. Olympic Skeet Team in 1939, at the age of sixteen. His Olympic competition was cancelled when the U.S. skeet team voted to not attend the Olympic games being hosted by Adolf Hitler. Dr. Sciaroni was inducted into the Fresno Athletic Hall of Fame in 1969. Lloyd took flying lessons during his high school years and earned his civilian's pilot license. He attended Stanford University for two years, and then he and his closest friend, the late Donald Quail, joined the U.S. Army Air Corps. During World War II, Lloyd served as a pilot of a B29 in the 315th Bomb Wing. He and his crew were stationed in Guam. Following his discharge from military service, Lloyd returned to Fresno to attend Fresno State College and became engaged to Barbara Hall, who was also a Fresno native. They were married in 1947. After spending two years at Fresno State, Lloyd transferred to the University of Southern California and graduated in 1950. Thereafter he remained a life-time avid fan of USC sports. Following his college graduation he completed his medical training at the College of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and later became a licensed M.D. following the amalgamation of the two organizations. Dr. and Mrs. Sciaroni lived in Southern California until Lloyd completed his medical internship, and all three sons were born during that time period. The family then set up permanent residence in Fresno. Lloyd practiced medicine for 17 years in the town of San Joaquin, California, and commuted daily between Fresno and San Joaquin. He then entered medical practice with three other physicians in Fresno and their practice was located on the grounds of the Sierra Hospital on Dakota Avenue. He continued practicing medicine until a serious illness forced him to retire in 1981. He gradually regained his health and he and Barbara continued their travels to numerous locations around the world. They also enjoyed renewing old friendships with Lloyd's Air Corps companions and their wives at annual group reunions. Lloyd was a very caring and compassionate doctor, father, husband and friend. He enjoyed the friendships of a wide range of people from all walks of life, and he was extremely loyal to all of those friends. Lloyd was happiest when entertaining friends and relatives in his home, regaling them with stories and serving great barbecued meals. Everyone who enjoyed sharing such occasions with him will miss him, especially his sons and their families and most of all, his closest friend, his wife Barbara. Lloyd is survived by his son, Brian Lloyd Sciaroni, Ph. D., a licensed clinical psychologist, and his wife, Jill Spaulding; by his son, Bretton G. Sciaroni, Esq., an international investment attorney, and his wife, Bui Thi Hoa My Sciaroni; and by his son, Matthew H. Sciaroni, DPM, a podiatrist, and his wife, Suzanne Sciaroni. He was also survived by five grandchildren, Beth, Breanne, Nicholas, Christopher, and Patricia. A Memorial Service will be held at the Farewell Funeral Home, 660 West Locust, Fresno, on Saturday, February 2, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. Remembrances may be made to Saint Agnes Hospice, 1111 E. Spruce Avenue, Fresno, California 93720 or to the American Cancer Society, 2222 West Shaw Suite 201, Fresno, CA 93711. FAREWELL 660 W. Locust Fresno, Ca. (559)440-0484

The Sciaroni Family,
I share your feeling of loss today, remembering a "2nd family" that had a closeness achieved by few. Dr. Sciaroni will always be remembered by me for his sense of humor and understanding "chuckle" at some of the antics of the teenaged boys who gravitated to the household where they felt welcomed. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Joe
