Lupe Mary Padilla
December 12, 1925 - April 26, 2022
Sanger, California - Lupe Padilla, precious mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend was called to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the age of 96. She passed away peacefully surrounded by the love and prayers of her family on the anniversary of her husband's passing in 2010.
Lupe was born December 12, 1925, in Selma, California to Joe and Frances Villalobos, and soon after, the family moved to Sanger. She attended Wilson, Harding, Taft, Rosedale Elementary schools, and graduated from Sanger High School in 1943. She earned her AA degree in bookkeeping and secretarial courses at Four C's college in Fresno. She worked for Olson & Olson Real Estate and Prescott Lumber Company as a bookkeeper for ten years.
She met her husband and lifelong partner, Steve, in the third grade and as he told us he always knew he would marry her. They married June 20, 1948, and celebrated sixty-two years together.
Lupe was dedicated to her family and devoted to caring for them. She stood steadfast beside her husband in life and business throughout her eighties. She loved to travel with Steve, and enjoyed many adventures in Europe, Mexico, and Canada. They traveled the east coast and southwest United States, with dear friends and trips to the central coast with her children, grandchildren and great grandchild, whom she cherished.
Lupe was strong in her Catholic faith and led by example how to live with prayer and trust in the Lord. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic parish her entire life, taught catechism and belonged to the Altar Society for over seventy years. She had a lovely voice and sang for the church choir for twenty-five years. For several years, she attended daily mass with a group of her cousins and friends until unable to do so as she faced health challenges. We all knew we were on her prayer list.
She enjoyed cooking for special occasions and decorating her home for the season, hosting family and foreign exchange students through the Rotary Club International. She loved flowers and working in her garden, her Golden State Warriors, especially Steph Curry, the Raiders, watching Jeopardy, word searches and singing. She was proud of her town, country and family.
She was faithful and devoted to the Blessed Mother and Heavenly Father. She will be remembered for her lovely letters and cards, elegant style, kind heart, thoughtfulness and generosity as she quietly donated to her church and various charities. Lupe will be sorely missed by many and never forgotten. We are blessed to have had her in our lives.
She is survived by her four children, Pauline, and husband Rick Contente, Rosemary Anderson, Jeanette Padilla, Steve Joseph Padilla and wife Pamela. She was Mima to her grandchildren, Eric and Jarred Contente, Ali and Ethan Anderson, Andrea and Sean Padilla, great granddaughter, Julia Rose Contente, and many relatives and friends.
Lupe is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her eight brothers, four sisters and infant grandson, Garrett Paul Anderson. She was the youngest and only surviving member of this large family. "I have a lot of people waiting for me in heaven," were some of her last words.
