Lynn Bomberger Obituary

Lynn Bomberger

January 6, 1945 - July 4, 2025

Pacific Grove, California - Lynn Bomberger, born in Modesto, was grateful for her friends and for having a good life. She died in July at the age of 80.

Lynn's main interest was always nature. While being a camper and eventually a leader at Camp Jack Hazard in the High Sierra, she fell in love with mountain trails and wilderness. As an adult, she enjoyed sharing information with others who also loved nature. She volunteered with the Monterey branches of the Sierra Club and the California Native Plant Society (CNPS). She led hikes with the Sierra Club, led CNPS field trips for 12 years, and composed the local CNPS newsletter for a decade.

Throughout her life, she took more than thirty nature focused trips around the globe. She also enjoyed sewing, created numerous oil paintings, enjoyed horseback trail riding and parading (1975 state champion), along with many other interests. Her career was primarily teaching at Caswell Elementary in Ceres, Fitch Middle School in Fort Ord, and Clovis West High School in Clovis.

Facing cognitive problems, she chose to peacefully end her life to avoid advanced dementia. Lynn is survived by her sister, Judie Bomberger. She requested not to have a memorial service.

Lynn, hiking in heaven. You remodeled every place you lived. You literally left your mark. Will miss you. The plants you planted by the lake 20 years ago are growing strong. Rest easy.

I met Lynn when were 11 or 12 at Shady Lawn Farm in Oakdale where we spent most Saturdays riding horses. We became great friends & spent many summers camping with her family in the mountains in the wilderness off of highway 4 near Alpine Lake hiking with our pellet guns & fishing poles in tow. We also stayed at Rio Del Mar where my grandmother lived. We spent hours fishing & crabbing off the cement boat & brought the crabs back for my grandmother to cook. Of course we played in the ocean while wearing the bikinis Lynn made for us, certainly not as risqué as today´s as they were up to our belly button but we thought they were pretty hot! Lynn got a horse before I did & her parents let her ride her horse from Modesto to my house in Oakdale, we kept him in the backyard for the night & then the next day she saddled up & rode home....obviously life was much safer in those days.
Lynn was always very independent, creative & talented in so many ways & was always fun & adventurous.
I send my fondest condolences to her sister Judie & hope she is doing well & still able to do her art.
Rest in peace Lynn, you were a treasure in my life!
With wonderful memories & lots of love !

I lost communication with Lynn after she returned to Modesto. We got to know each other at FSU in the seventies. We enjoyed fishing together and had a great success catching Catfish. She was a wonderful person.

I forgot to mention an interesting request from Lynn, she asked that I light sparklers for her on the 4th of July which my sister Verda and I did.

Lynn and I have been very close friends for 63 years. Since she first told me of her medical issue several months ago we have talked frequently about her decision to go with dignity. She is at peace with her decision and she wants others to know that they do not have to survive in a life of misery. She often talked about her childhood days with Judy at Camp Jack Hazard catching lizards. We spoke two days before she left for Switzerland I told her how much I love her and she is an important person to many people. Lynn is a unique individual to be remembered with love. Sonny

I knew Lynn from Thomas Downey High School and ran into her at various high school reunions. She was a beautiful talented lady. It seems she lived and died as she chose. I admire you Lynn! Rest in peace
