Magdalena Alvarez Obituary

MAGDALENA B. ALVAREZ "Molly"

Molly was born on February 16, 1916, in Guadalupe De Los Reyes, Sinaloa, Mexico and passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2003, in San Joaquin, CA. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, godmother, sister and aunt. Molly had countless friends and loved ones. Molly opened her heart, and her home to everyone. She loved speaking with anyone she met and ended up having a friend. She loved being a homemaker, reading gardening, singing, music, dancing, her dogs (Seve and Bailey), her Mexican heritage, and telenovelas. She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony Alvarez; her father, Ignacio Becerra; her mother, Rosenda Gomez; and her brother, Jose Diaz. She is survived by her eight children, Lola, Delia, Robert, Tony, Richard, Pete, Larry, and David; two sons-in-law, six daughters-in-law; her brother, Manual Diaz; and numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Molly was blessed with 28 grandchildren, and 49 great-grandchildren. Molly came to the United States in 1920; first to AZ, and then to the Fresno area in 1925. She recalled her childhood as wonderful; playing on Grantland Avenue, near Herndon; playing with her brothers, going to dances, and riding the cable cars in downtown Fresno. Her love for her Momma was strong. Molly and her husband Tony settled in San Joaquin in 1948 where they raised their family and resided. Molly exuded love, wisdom, humor, wit, confidence and inspiration. Her strength came from her faith in Jesus Christ. In all her trials in life, her refuge was the Word of God. She lived in the teachings of Christ. Her heart for the poor and needy was proven by monthly donations to various organizations. As the Bible teaches, she gave her 'first fruit' to God. Molly passed along these same loves to her children and her good and faithful service will continue. Her love of her family was her brightest light. Her greatest memories and happiest times were when her home was filled with family and friends. It was then that God's love shown brightest through her. Her life was full and her blessings were many. The family wishes to thank the physicians and entire staff of St. Agnes Medical Center, 1303 E. Herndon Ave., Fresno, CA 93720; the caring and compassionate staff of Hinds Hospice, 1616 W. Shaw Ave., #B6, Fresno, CA 93711; the American Cancer Society, 2222 W. Shaw Ave., Fresno, CA 93711, and ask that all affordable remembrances be made to those organizations. Visitation will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Fresno on Thursday, October 23, 2003, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.; followed by Recitation of the Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Fresno on Friday, October 24, 2003, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Peter's Cemetery. alm3,,100,p KERMAN FUNERAL SERVICEKerman, Ca 846-9369
