RICHARD SEYLLER Obituary

Richard Lewis Seyller was a gentleman in every sense of the word. God found a place in heaven for him on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at 10:45 p.m. He was surrounded by family who loved him so much. He was born in Prophetstown, Illinois on April 29, 1922, in a seven room farm house on a cold and frosty morning. His parents moved from the farm when he was a young man and he attended high school in Chicago where he excelled in choir and football and was named All-City Left End for the city of Chicago in his senior year. He served in the U.S. Navy, attended University of Illinois, Champaign and upon graduating from DePaul University was recruited to his first coaching job at Edison High School in Fresno. He was introduced to a beautiful nurse, Delynn Eaken, by his sister Harriett. He fell head over heels and within thre months they were engaged. They were married December 26, 1948. He was the wind, beneath the wings of his wife Dee and best friend for more than 63 years. Dick loved sports, travel, and reading. He was an excellent coach in all aspects of life, spent many years as a high school football referee, was a devoted teacher at Westpark, and beloved Superintendent at Centerville and Tivy Valley Schools and following the merger with Sanger Unified he became Principal at Wilson Elementary in Sanger. This modest man made such a huge difference in so many lives. His integrity, honesty, and fun loving humor is what empowered his children and grandchildren to be the best they can be. Dick and Dee loved to travel, spend time with family and their life long friends. They were fortunate enough to visit many far away places such as Egypt, Russia, Eastern Europe, South Africa, Hawaii, Great Britain, China, Spain, Alaska and much of the United States. He was a member of the Exchange Club of Fresno where he greatly enjoyed the camaraderie. Our heartfelt thanks to Lillia, Bea, Tissie, Raquel and the Saint Agnes Hospice Team for their tender loving care the last month. You quickly became part of our family and we will be forever grateful. His love and jokes will be missed tremendously by his wife Dee Seyller; daughters and sons-in-law, Pam and Gene Kallsen, Lynn and Tony Bennink, and Lori Seyller; grandchildren, Leslie and Laura Bragg, Erika and Brad Jennings, and Corry Bennink; and great-grandchildren, Annabell and Thijs Jennings. A Celebration of Richard's Life is scheduled at 156 Richmond Avenue in Clovis, California on Friday, March 23, 2012, at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to Terry's House at Community Regional Medical Center; Marjaree Mason Center; or your favorite charity.
