Roderick Patrick Obituary
Roderick Gale Patrick
November 1, 1937 - December 31, 2024
Carmel, California - Roderick Gale Patrick (Gale, to his friends and family), passed away on December 31st, 2024 at the age of 87. He died as he lived, on his own terms and in his own time. After many years of living with kidney disease, he passed peacefully at home in the presence of the love of his life, Judy, and under the watchful care of friends and family who streamed in to help him transition from this life to whatever awaits us beyond this Earth.
Gale was born on November 1, 1937 in Newbern, Tennessee. He moved with his family to Fresno, California in 1947 following his father's military tour in Italy during World War II. He worked very hard to support his family, obtaining his roofing contractor's license in 1970 and establishing his own company, Fresno based California Roofing. He and Judy moved from Fresno to Carmel, CA, in 2012, a place they had visited many times over the years and had grown to love. Gale also had a deep appreciation for the beauty of Big Sur and Yosemite. He loved to go deep sea fishing, enjoyed collecting firearms, appreciated classic cars, and enjoyed traveling with his family. In his later years, Gale became fascinated with his family history, taking a trip with Judy to visit all of his great-grandfather's civil war battle sites. He had a proclivity for telling stories that could elicit either a belly laugh or a blush, and knew and remembered so many characters from his youth in Tennessee and his years living and working in the San Joaquin Valley.
Gale and Judy were together since the moment they met. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in October 2024. Gale was proceeded in death by their son Roderick "Rod" Patrick Jr.; parents LN Patrick and Georgetta (Arnold) Koenig; and brother Gerald "Jerry" Patrick. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Judith "Judy" Anne (Eads) Patrick; sister-in-law Barbara Eads; brother-in-law Jim Eads; nephew Steve Patrick (Marsha); nieces Debbie Hoskins (Edmund) and children Ashley and Brandon; Sondra Perry (Lance); Jessica Smith (Michael) and children Elise and Ava; nephew Kent Bush (Lynette); niece in-law Joyce Gonzalez and children Amy, Sara, Kalen, Krista and Seth; and nine great-great nieces and nephews. He was the ever-present patriarch. As he once told a great-niece's fiancé, "when you marry her, you marry the whole family." His family is forever grateful for Gale's humor, work ethic, devotion to his wife and the unconditional love that he gave them all. Cheers to this man whose spirit will forever live on in those of us who loved him.
