Ronald died on September 11, 2014, of complications of a heart attack and a stroke. Ronald is survived by his brother, Clarkson C. Ron's light hearted and outgoing personality attracted many friends and acquaintances who will miss him dearly. Another year passes....each year I re-read the previous messages. I remember when we were teenagers, you would come to town, Mike would say, "You'd think it was the second coming of Christ!" It seems like not so long ago we'd be driving out to the Ranch, hanging out in the Casita. Life, and our amazing ability to adapt to it. Happy trails, my love. Don't forget about us....

An amendment to my earlier tribute to Ron -
Sharing a photo I took of Ron at the N. Yosemite Avenue house with his pride and joy new mini-bike at the time - 1970´s. Pure proof that the spirit of an adventurous young boy was always present in the Ron I knew.

After years of trying to locate my old dear Fresno State friend, I sadly came across his obit - my heart breaks.
I poured beer at The Graduate and Ron used to stop by for a cold one after school and we became fast friends over long discussions about our love of music and film.
My girlfriend and I spent hours at Ron and Dolores´s place...the girls off doing their thing and Ron and I listening to records and playing backgammon. He was a one of a kind...so sorry I was never able to find him until now, but the amazing memories of a rare friendship remain.
Peace my friend.

My first love...I always hoped our paths would cross in our "grown up" years...I would have liked to know the man you became...now, alas, that is not to be. I searched for you and after many years found you in cyberspace two years after your passing. I gave you my heart and all that a girl could give and you gave me your name, the most a man can give. We shared a good part of our youth...great times and some not so great. Nobody knew me better then you and no one ever will. You brought the love of film and music into my life. Oh the hours we spent at Tower Records. I hope you had an amazing life and made a lot of memories for a lot of people. Sleep well sweet Prince...you told me once you missed my presence...

Many years ago I would sit with Ron and play cards at a table all night. The experience was as if I had been transported into some kind of a strange and funny movie. Ron could say anything, outrageous, provocative, never dull. I often wondered how he could get away with saying something that, if simply read, seemed simply offensive. I think it was because he was kind -- albeit in a special way. Ron was not malicious, he was sincere, genuine, spontaneous. Ron, thanks for being.

Ron Smith was a true original, as anyone who knew him well will readily assert. He was one of those "larger than life" individuals who cannot really be properly eulogized in the comments section of an online memorial.
He was without a doubt one of the most intelligent, perceptive, inventive, bold, hilarious, infuriating, creative, caring, kind and contradictory folks that I've been granted the privilege to have known. He was... The Director!
The thousands of hours that Ron & I have spent chasing golf balls, bobbing around in The Bay, cheering ourselves hoarse at various sporting events, driving up and down the dusty Valley roads, running around Fresno, Madera, San Francisco, L.A., Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Honolulu have been among the best spent hours in my days on Earth, and have had a profound effect on the life I live today.
As saddened and shocked as I am to realize that there will be no more of those precious hours together, I've got to take this opportunity to tip my hat to a walkin' talkin' miracle, a rare example of a man who dared to live his life as though he meant it. He will be sorely missed!

Well played, Skipper. Well played!

I am the Director, don't for get "PAL"

Ron, I've know since about 2000.
We met in Fresno in the Tower District, just crossing the street one day. Back then first impressions, felt I was talking to JR. Ewing from Dallas. Little did I know as I came to know that man, friends at times and badgering friends at other. Really a Gentle Giant in his own crazy way.
You will never be forgotten our loud and boystruss Friend. You will be missed*****

I remember back in the 80's when Ron would come into the bar and basically take over. His personality was huge. You could not ignore him. He was funny, loud, intelligent, engaging, entertaining and unpredictable. I lost contact with him when I moved away. When I moved back, I asked Mike Todd if he was still alive. I was happy to hear he was still around, but I never got the opportunity to experience him after moving back.
