SYLVIA DER TOROSIAN

1936 - 2016

Sylvia Der Torosian was born to Margaret and James Arvizu, on May 24, 1936, in Azusa, CA. She grew up in Arvin, CA, before moving to Madera, CA, in 1963. Sylvia was devoted to her family and friends. Sylvia had a wonderful sense of humor and was a great story teller. She was a woman of deep faith and always thought of others despite her own health struggles. Sylvia served as a volunteer for the American Cancer Reach for Recovery Program for many years. She was a 4H leader and also participated on the Grand Jury. A special thank you from the family, to the doctors and staff at St. Agnes Medical Center for their incredible compassion and care. Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Arvizu; and sister-in-law, Janie Arvizu. Sylvia is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years, Haig Der Torosian; her son, Dan and his wife Ivonne; her daughter, Diana and her husband Brian; three granddaughters, Shelby, Aubrey, and Cambria; and one grandson Tyler. Sylvia is also survived by her sister, Diana Arvizu; her brother, Jimmy Arvizu; and her nephews, Mark Arvizu, Matthew Arvizu, and Michael Arvizu. She also leaves behind a wonderful extended Torosian family, whom she loved dearly. Visitation will be held at Jay Chapel in Madera, CA, on Tuesday, February 2, 20 16, from 2 :00 to 7 :00 p.m., with a Recitation of t he Holy Rosary to follow at 7 :00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Madera, CA on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at: Calvary Cemetery in Madera, C A Remembrances may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2222 West Shaw Avenue, Suite 201, Fresno, CA 93711.
