James Thomas "Tommy" Woods
1941 - 2021

James Thomas "Tommy" Woods, age 80, died peacefully at home in Asheville, North Carolina on Oct. 4, 2021.

Although some family members called him "Tommy," he was known as "JT" to most of his friends and colleagues. He was born to Wildon and Charlotte (Jaggers) Woods in Franklin, Indiana on Feb. 7, 1941. He graduated from Kirklin High School and attended Purdue University before moving to Los Angeles, California where he began his 40-year career in the movie industry. From studio lots to locations around the world, he brought to life the Production Designers' plans for many major movies including "Fantastic Voyage," "The Deer Hunter,' "Blade Runner," and "The Last of the Mohicans." In 2001, he retired to his farm in Lillington, North Carolina where he and his wife, Joanne, worked together boarding horses, creating 10 miles of horse trails through their woods, building barns, pavilions, camping facilities and restoring an 80-year-old farmhouse.

JT, "Tommy," is survived by his wife of 22 years, Joanne Davis-Woods; his three daughters, Theresa Merlino, Diana Lynn (Greg} Lane and Trinity (Allen Gerten) Woods; two sisters, Sandra (Richard Drain) Stahl and Nancy (Russ) Hall; one brother, Wildon Terry (Karen) Woods; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Tina Marie; his brother Bill; and a sister, Jackie Albaugh.

A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
