Dwayne Bettger Obituary

Dwaynne C. Bettger, 71, of Commerce City, passed away Oct. 22, at his home. Dwaynne was born June 20, 1944, in Denver. He was the only child of Iva (Stonestreet Bettger) Branham and Carl Bettger.
Dwaynne attended grade school at Zion Lutheran until 1958, Brighton Jr. High in 1958 and 1959, and graduated from Brighton High School in 1962. He wanted to be a farmer, but life had other plans. He was drafted during Vietnam and joined the U.S. Navy. He served from 1965 to 1969. When asked how long he served in the Navy, he always replied: "three years, 11 months and 14 days." In the Navy, he was an electrician's mate A School.
He met the love of his life and best friend, Sandra (Moore). They were married Oct. 25, 1969. They were later blessed with two children.
He started working for the then-Public Service Co. of Colorado in 1970. He became an appliance serviceman and then an electric meter man. He retired from Xcel Energy in September of 2004.
Dwaynne was a loving husband and father. He was a faithful, honest, giving and hardworking man. He rarely met a stranger. He enjoyed gardening, cooking, carpentry, fly tying, fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed music and playing the guitar. He was in a country/bluegrass band while in the Navy. He also loved a good time with family and friends.
Dwaynne is survived by his daughter, Amy Bettger, of Commerce City; a son, Brian Bettger; grandchildren, Tyler and Emilee, of Commerce City; brother in-laws and sister in-laws, Bert and Glenda Moore, of Arvada, and Wesley and Ruthie Kroschel, of Del Norte; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends, who were just like family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife; his parents; and stepfather, Joe Branham.
Funeral services will be private. Interment will take place at Del Norte Cemetery. Dwaynne requested that memorial contributions be made to the charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
Tabor-Rice Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
