Charles Langley Obituary

Funeral services with full military honors for Charles "Chuck" Van Langley, 77, Oxford, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home and Crematory. The Revs. Joseph Dismuke, Brad Williams and Charles Alan Langley will officiate. Burial will be in Dogwood Trails Cemetery. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening at Miller Funeral Home.
Mr. Langley passed away Wednesday, Oct. 27, 2010, at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.
Chuck was born in Gadsden. After attending Gadsden schools, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He served our country honorably for more than 21 years. He served three tours in Korea, tour in Germany and tour in Vietnam. He received 11 medals, one of which was the Bronze Star. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Award and the Combat Infantryman's Badge with Second Award.
Master Sergeant Langley's awards also included the Vietnam Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Army Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, the National Defense Medal, the Army Overseas Service Ribbon, the NATO Korean Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign and the Cold War Victory Medal.
After retiring from the U.S. Army, Chuck worked in the building materials industries for more than 18 years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, bird watching and coupon-clipping. His greatest times were spent being "Pop" to his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, May and Mittie Aris Langley; half-brothers, Jesse and Leroy Langley; brother, Fred Langley; and sister, Ruth Riddle; and nephew; Matt Riddle.
His survivors include his wife of 55 years, Shirley Langley; daughter, Kathy Nail; son, Brian Langley; daughter, Julie and Larry Poore; and son, Alan and Dana Langley; brothers, Joe Langley, Bobby and Glenda Langley; sister, Peggy Shaw; grandchildren, Alanna Nail-Gibat and Patrick, Lance Cpl. Nathan Nail (USMC), Alexandria Langley, Ian Langley, Caroline Langley; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
