Ginger Adkins Obituary

On Oct. 24, 2007, Ginger graduated with highest honors into the arms of our Savior Jesus Christ. Ginger's memorial service will be a celebration at Hewett Memorial United Methodist Church, 1110 Walnut St., Albertville, on Nov. 3, 2007, at 10 a.m., with the Revs. Neal Culberson and Ralph Burrow officiating. A celebration meal will follow in the fellowship hall. Private graveside services for family and friends will occur later at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Southside, and also at Gulf Shores.

She is survived by her husband, John J. Adkins Jr., Albertville; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John Sr. and Rebecca Adkins, Guin; brothers, Kerry Rich, Albertville, and Norman Rich (Jean), Richmond Hill, Ga.; nieces, Amber Rich Fordham (Bryan) and Lyndsey Rich, Richmond Hill, and Alexandra Rich Fyfe (Brian), Gadsden; brother-in-law, Terry D. Adkins (Tina), Guin; and niece, Ashley Dawn Adkins, Guin. Ginger also leaves behind a circle of close, special friends who were more like her sisters than any sister could be. She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ruth Hall Rich, Southside.

Ginger was a much loved instructor at Snead State Community College in Boaz where she taught economics for 241Ú2 years until illness forced an early retirement. She touched many people's lives and was an inspiration to all who knew her. Ginger also worked as administrative assistant to Charles Rowe, president of the former Baptist Hospital in Gadsden, for nine years before her marriage to John.

Ginger was a graduate of Southside High School and Jacksonville State University, receiving both BS and MBA degrees with additional course work at the University of Alabama Center in Gadsden.

Ginger worshiped at Hewett Memorial United Methodist Church for 27 years, where she was active in the chancel choir and in the Alabama Emmaus Community. She loved the Lord and she loved to sing which was her special ministry and her joy.

Ginger and John had almost 29 years of marriage together and were the love of each other's lives. John and the family would like to thank her students, coworkers, church family, Hospice of Marshall County team, and special circle of friends for all the prayers, support and love shown to Ginger and John during her illness.

The family requests no flowers please. Memorials may be made in Ginger's name to Hewett Memorial United Methodist Church Stained Glass Window Memorial Fund, 1110 Walnut St., Albertville, AL 35950, or to the charity of your choice.

John,
Johnny and I offer our deepest sympathy and love to you.

Ginger was not just a cousin but just like my sister, and my dearest friend. She is the only person with whom I have had a life long connection - going back to when we were babies.

I love her dearly and miss her so very much.

She was a very special person and one of the most Christ-like people I have known. Always thinking of others and being so brave.

I treasure my childhood memories with her and am so thankful we were able to spend the last several years together having fun times, sharing smiles and tears, and feeling her gentle spirit in my life.

Ginger is one of our Lord's jewels and I know she is happy and well with our Savior. I love her and admire her so. I feel blessed she was in my life.

John our hearts and prayers go out to you and we pray the Lord will continue to give you comfort, strength, and peace.

Much love,
Linda and Johnny

John, thank you so very much for including the recent picture of Ginger in her guest book. Just seeing her smile brought back so many wonderful memories for me. The closeness Ginger, Linda, Bettye and I had throughout college and after will always be a part of our lives. My heart is with you and all the family. You were truly blessed as a husband,we as were Norman and Kerry to have her for a sister.

Mr. Adkins,

I remember Ginger. As a boy, my sister, Sandy, and she would visit our parent's home during their years at college and then, many years after. I recall Ginger to be tall, swan-like, with long dark hair. I remember an unusual kindness, and a confindence in her walk. A smile and demeanor of someone thoughtful and wise beyond her actual years. I also recall the love and respect my sister had for her tall friend.

I have seen beautiful women since that time that would bring Ginger to my mind. I know of Ginger's college friends' grief of her having left too soon. Sandy has spoken to me of how devastating it has been for Betty, Susan, Linda and herself. What I cannot know is the emptiness that the loss has meant to you.

With all of this said, I hope that the contentment and peace that is inevidible, will come soon and linger always. I think that you know that you were a blessed man.

Respectfully,
Brian Green

jOHN, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SENDING THE PICTURE OF GINGER. SHE LOOKED SO BEAUTIFUL. I LAST SAW GINGER ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO WHEN 4 OF THE OLD JAX STATE FRIENDS MET ON CAMPUS FOR A SORT OF 'MINI' REUNION. SHE, AT THE TIME, WAS VERY EXCITED ABOUT THE PROM YOU HAD GIVEN HER FOR HER 50th BIRTHDAY, AND SHARED ALL OF HER PICTURES WITH US. WE HAD A GREAT TIME THAT DAY AND PLANNED TO GET TOGETHER THE NEXT YEAR, BUT, SOMEHOW, TIME WENT BY AND WE NEVER GOT TOGETHER AGAIN. I AM SORRY I DID NOT KNOW OF HER ILLNESS. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES THAT I SHARED WITH YOUR SWEET WIFE. LINDA FORDHAM COX

I was a friend and roommate of Ginger's at JSU, and also shared an apartment in Birmingham as I worked here and she worked in Gadsden. She was a great friend and a truly wonderful person. I have so many fond memories of visiting her parent's home in Southside, of late nights in the dorm, and of trips taken. She was such a part of my life, and I regret us losing contact as we lived our lives. John, you have my deepest sympathy.

This is a recent picture of Ginger and remember she had been fighting cancer for over a year. Her skin was still beautiful and soft.

Ginger and I went to Jacksonville State together, and after graduation, Ginger roomed with me in Anniston. We had so much fun together--filled with hours of laughter! She meant so much to me, and I regret that I did not keep in touch over these years! The years that Ginger and I were a part of each other's lives will always remain a part of me, and I think fondly of our years together. John, I am so sorry for your loss.

It was sad to read of Ginger's death, but it was good to read of her wonderful life. I grew up not far from Ginger and her dear family in Southside. Thoughts and prayers for all who cherish her memories.
