Janet Petersen Adams

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Collier-Butler Chapel for a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Janet Petersen Adams, 79, Collinsville, who died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008. The Rev. J.J. Adams will officiate with burial at Black Creek Cemetery. Collier-Butler Funeral and Cremation Services directing.

Mrs. Adams was born March 30, 1929, in Oakland, Calif., and retired from the Los Angeles Unified School District as an educational secretary. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Russell Petersen; parents, Lawrence E. Tyson and Jeannette M. Dudley Tyson; sisters, Erba Miller and Gladys Pennington; brother, Lawrence "Bud" Tyson II; grandson, Edward Earl Scheib Jr.; niece, Peggy; and nephew, Dann Jr.

She is survived by her husband, James Adams; children, Janelle (Edward) Scheib and Laura (Charles) Wisdom; sister, Elnora "Nonnie" McKenzie; grandchildren, Joshua Scheib, Rachel (Tyler) Cline, Tiffany Scheib, PFC Ryan Gallagher, Nicole Sheib and Summer Lynne Scheib; great-grandchild, Elizabeth Cline; stepsons, James Adams Jr., Randall (Nelda) Adams, Stanley (Darlene) Adams, Jeffrey (Patty) Adams and Richard (Marcie) Adams; nieces and nephews, Jean, Janet, Dann, Beth, Gail, Mary, Susan, Martha, Lawrence III, Brian, Georgia Ann, Mark, Mary and Matthew; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Pallbearers will be Timmy Wisdom, R.J. Wisdom, John Adams, Timothy Adams, Benny Foster and Charles Wisdom. Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ICU staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center, especially Jeff and Jeff.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 this evening at the funeral home.
