Jerry Fields Obituary

Jerry Dana Fields, 70, Hendersonville, North Carolina, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at the Elizabeth House after a lengthy and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. Jerry was born in Trussville, Alabama, to the late R.H. Fields and Mae Cunningham Fields.
He graduated from Northside High School, Warner Robins, Georgia, and Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was also a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, stationed at Okinawa Island. He was employed by the former Republic Steel Corp. in Gadsden, and most notably with Kimberly-Clark Corp. in Roswell, Georgia, and Corinth, Mississippi. He retired from Berkley Mills in Hendersonville. Following his retirement, he worked at Eaton Corp. in Arden, North Carolina, as a sales engineer culminating a remarkable career of more than 36 years in the field of Electrical Engineering.
Jerry was a life-long United Methodist and was a very active member of the United Methodist Churches he and his family attended. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville at the time of his death.
Jerry was an avid and skilled fly fisherman and had a life-long enjoyment of boating. Jerry also enjoyed West Henderson High School sports during the Stanley/Wood/Hyatt years, watching Charlotte Hornets and Golden State Warriors basketball, Auburn University athletics, NASCAR races, classic cars and any activities in which family and friends were involved. Jerry was a very kind, deeply respected, outgoing, friendly, highly-regarded and loving man who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Freida Beasley Fields, and their beloved children, Emily Fields of Hendersonville and John Fields of Fletcher. He is also survived by his only brother, Ray Fields and his wife, Nancy, of Attalla; nephews, Stephen Fields and Paul Fields and their families; Beasley in-laws, Elaine Jones, Florence Hill, Frances Turner, Roland Beasley, Jean Beasley and their families; Barbara Stanley; numerous cousins in Alabama and Georgia; and by his best friend, Guy Pressley of Hendersonville.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, in Thos. Shepherd's Church Street Chapel officiated by the Rev. Dr. Mark Ralls and the Rev. Kenneth R. Casey, long-time friend, of Gadsden. A private inurnment will be at Lake Junaluska in the Room of Memory Columbarium at a later date.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Thos. Shepherd & Son.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt and special thanks to Dr. James Radford and his staff and Dr. Bob Webb for their remarkable care, compassion and concern throughout Jerry's illness. They would also like to thank the staff of Elizabeth House for their support and care during their brief stay there.
